Make the Connection

Quick Response Codes, commonly known as QR Codes, originated in the automotive industry. They work similarly to UPC labels that you see on items you purchase at any store. However, QR Codes can hold more information than a UPC can. Plus, they can be read more quickly than UPCs.

With the use of smartphones, QR Codes are now used as a way to connect products and potential customers in new ways. They are also used to supply people with additional information about a product or service. A friend of mine recently saw a life-size cardboard stand-up of an athlete with a QR Code printed on it, at an orthodontist’s office. Patients can scan the QR Code with their smartphones to find out why this athlete recommends the particular brand of braces that are available. Fast. Simple. Effective.

This got me thinking about how to use QR Codes with sending cards.

You may already know that you can design custom cards at Totally Awesome Cards. But, do you know there is a way to connect cards that are mailed with the web?

This is where the QR Codes come in. By adding a QR Code to any card you create at Totally Awesome Cards, you can connect people with important information on the Internet.

To add one to your next card, the first thing you need to do is go online and do a search for “Free QR Code Generator”. There is an abundance of sites that offer this for no cost to you. If you would rather create one using your smartphone, go to your phone’s app store and search for one there. The one I have at the top of this post was created using a free android app. (Plus, if you want to start scanning QR Codes that you see, there are a number of free smartphone apps for that too.)

Once you have your code generated and saved, then you can go to Totally Awesome Cards to create a card. All you have to do is place the code somewhere on your card before you send it out. With the QR Code on your card, you will now have another way to connect with people who receive your cards. Totally Awesome!
