The Importance of “Get Well” Greetings

In times past, when you were ill or recovering from surgery, it was common for your friends and relatives to pay you a “get well” visit in person, often bringing you a meal or helping you around the house. This was during a time when family members were located in closer proximity to one another  and the people in your neighborhood were likely relatives or close family friends.

Although, times have changed quite a bit, families are sometimes separated by long distances, and there are probably two or three neighbors on your street you have never even met…  that does not mean you cannot share the same “get well” sentiments that were shared long ago.

Are “get well” greetings really that important?

Yes, they absolutely are! When you are sick or recovery from surgery, you use up all your strength by working on getting well again. Your body can be exhausted, as well as your mind. Your body uses all of its resources to help you regain your health and strength. You often are not able to prepare food for yourself (or your family) for a time and you can use the encouragement and support that others can provide. Receiving a visit, a meal, and some help in person is still the best medicine – but there are many times in today’s age where an in-person visit is not possible.

So, what can we do to help our friends and loved ones recover, even when we can’t be there in person?
